Personal stylist perspective from the GTA + Toronto area
It will come as a surprise to absolutely no one that I am not a sports girly.
I did briefly jump on the Toronto Blue Jays bandwagon last fall (what a run!), but generally speaking, athletics and the associated wardrobe… just isn’t my jam. I’m far more likely to be found in a blazer, a vintage piece, or something that looks like it belongs in a street style roundup—not on a soccer field.
But then a curious thing happened.
I kept seeing the same track pant pop up again and again on cool girls everywhere—Toronto, New York, Instagram, Pinterest. You know the ones: the Adidas track pants with the side stripes. Relaxed but still polished. Sporty but styled. Casual but intentional.
And it got me thinking…
Could I do soft pants?
Soft pants have never really been part of my personal style identity. I’ve always felt like they fall into that category of clothing that looks great on other people, but on me? I wasn’t convinced.
But these track pants were different. They weren’t sloppy. They weren’t “I gave up.” They were giving model-off-duty energy. They looked versatile. They looked wearable. They looked like the kind of piece that could be dressed up, dressed down, and still feel cool.
So… I did it.
I Bought the Track Pants (In Red With Pink Stripes… Obviously)
I wish I could tell you I eased into this trend with a safe black pair.
But no.
I went full neon Valentine’s Day and bought red Adidas track pants with pink stripes, because if you’re going to try something new and mildly terrifying, you might as well commit.
That said, if bold colour isn’t your vibe, these pants come in what feels like every colour of the rainbow. Start with black if you want a subtle entry point. Move into navy, green, or beige. Feeling spicy? Go for red, pink, or cobalt.
They even released a Liberty print collab and a polka dot line (which sold out, tragically—SNIFF). But honestly, all of it is so fun. And it’s the kind of fun that feels very 2026 style mood: playful, nostalgic, a little sporty, a little cheeky.
The First Few Wears Were… Uncomfortable
I’m not going to pretend this was an instant love story.
At first, the transition was awkward. I didn’t love the feel. I didn’t know how to style them. I wasn’t sure I looked like myself. They felt like a costume.
And if you’ve ever tried to shift your style—even slightly—you know exactly what I mean. When something new enters your wardrobe, it can feel like it’s wearing you, instead of the other way around.
But as a fashion aficionado (and professional stylist) who loves challenging my style biases purely for sport (pun intended), I kept wearing them.
At first, it was mostly around the house. I couldn’t quite figure out the fit or the vibe. They were comfortable, yes—but were they me?
And Then… I Hit My Groove
And then it happened.
I found the styling formula.
Suddenly, they became the versatile track star I’d seen on everyone else. Wowzah.
They worked with oversized blazers. They worked with fitted tanks. They worked with crisp button-downs. They even worked with a heeled boot (yes, really). They gave that effortless “I’m cool but I didn’t try too hard” energy—while secretly being the most comfortable thing in my closet.
Why Adidas Track Pants Work (Even If You’re Not a Sports Person)
From a stylist’s perspective, this is why they’re sneaky-good:
- The stripes create visual structure (they elongate the leg and add shape)
- The fabric drapes instead of clinging
- They balance oversized silhouettes beautifully
- They give an outfit that “styled” feeling without needing much effort
They’re also one of those rare pieces that can swing both ways: casual enough for errands, but styled correctly, they can absolutely pass for cool girl streetwear.
How to Style Adidas Track Pants (Without Looking Like You’re Going to Gym Class)
If you want to try this look but still feel like yourself, here are a few outfit pairings that work especially well:
1. Track Pants + Crisp Button-Down + Sneakers
Easy, polished, and very “downtown Toronto.”
2. Track Pants + Blazer + Tank Top
This is the sweet spot. The contrast is everything.
3. Track Pants + Chunky Knit + Gold Jewellery
Soft meets intentional. Perfect for spring weekends.
4. Track Pants + Leather Jacket + Sunglasses
Instant cool girl uniform. No notes.
5. Track Pants + Fitted Tee + Ballet Flats
Sporty meets feminine. Surprisingly chic.
The Real Lesson: The Unsuspecting Piece Might Be the Hero
If this story reminds us of anything, let it be this:
Trying new things—even when they feel weird, unfamiliar, or slightly terrifying—can lead to unpredictable (but very comfortable) outcomes.
Sometimes the piece you’d normally dismiss is the one that ends up doing the most heavy lifting in your wardrobe.
And honestly? Adidas track pants are excellent long weekend attire. Comfortable, cute, functional, and somehow still fashionable.
So yes. I tried something new. I bought Adidas track pants.
I know.
Who am I?
But also… I kind of get it now.

I’ve pulled together a selection of my favourite styles (note: size range varies depending on the cut), plus a Pinterest board full of outfit inspiration for styling track pants in real life.
Because if we’re doing soft pants, we’re doing them properly.
Sometimes the most unsuspecting piece really is the hero.
